The anime adaptation of the popular manga Suupaa no Ura de Yani Suu Futari (Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You) is set to premiere on July 9, 2026. The series will air on TBS’s 28-station network nationwide at 11:56 p.m. JST, with a total of 12 episodes planned.
The manga, created by Jinushi (地主), originally began serialization on Twitter (now X) on March 9, 2022. The first episode garnered over 280,000 likes, sparking a major buzz. It later moved to Monthly Big Gangan (Square Enix) and won first place in the Web Manga category of the “Next Manga Award 2022.” As of January 2026, the compiled volumes have surpassed 3 million copies in circulation.
Story
Worn-down middle-aged office worker Sasaki trudges along the corporate grind. His quiet pleasures in life are his daily cigarettes and the cheerful service of Yamada, a female clerk at his go-to supermarket. One night, exhausted from work, he heads to the supermarket seeking comfort, but Yamada isn’t there, and there’s nowhere to smoke these days. Just as he’s feeling dejected, a woman named Tayama calls out to him, “You can smoke here.”

The anime begins broadcasting on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:56 p.m. on TBS’s 28 stations, with subsequent episodes airing weekly at the same time. AT-X will also air the series starting Sunday, July 12, at 9:00 p.m., with repeats on Wednesdays at 4:30 a.m. and Sundays at 6:00 a.m.

ABEMA and Netflix will offer early streaming starting Friday, July 10, at 12:30 a.m. The following platforms will begin unlimited streaming from Thursday, July 16, at 12:30 a.m. onward: Prime Video, U-NEXT, Anime Houdai, d Anime Store, DMM TV, J:COM STREAM, Miru Plus, TELASA, Hulu, Lemino, FOD, AnimeFesta, Disney Plus, and WOWOW On Demand. Special Program (ABEMA)
A special program titled “‘Suupaa no Ura de Yani Suu Futari’ Special Program ~ABEMA no Tokuban de Katariau Sannin~” will air exclusively on ABEMA on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The program will feature voice actors Satou Takuya (Sasaki), Hoshiki Seina (Yamada/Tayama), and Takahashi Shinya (Suzuki). It will be available for free until Monday, August 31, 2026. Additionally, an ABEMA-exclusive early streaming version of all 12 episodes will be broadcast for free on the same day from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
