Mizuki Shigeru’s Yokai Summer Festival Brings 88 Mysterious Constellations to Planetarium in Tokyo

An event that lets visitors enjoy the yokai of Shigeru Mizuki—known for GeGeGe no Kitaro and other works—through a planetarium experience has been announced. Titled Mizuki Shigeru no Yokai Natsu Matsuri: 88 no Ayashii Seiza-tachi (Mizuki Shigeru’s Yokai Summer Festival: 88 Mysterious Constellations), it will be held at the entertainment planetarium facility Konica Minolta Planetaria TOKYO from July 17 (Friday) to August 31 (Monday), 2026.

What to Expect at the Festival

The event merges the yokai world of Shigeru Mizuki, who continuously depicted yokai from Japan and around the world, with the space of a planetarium that projects the starry sky. Inside the dome, all 88 constellations floating in the night sky will transform into Mizuki’s yokai—some eerie, some endearing—in what are called “yokai constellations.” There will also be special immersive video content that makes visitors feel as if they have stepped into the world of yokai, as well as game stalls designed with a yokai theme.

Event-Exclusive Goods

At the venue, original event-exclusive goods featuring Mizuki’s humorous and charming yokai will be available. These can be purchased even without a ticket to the event.

Yokai Omikuji (Fortune Slips)

The “Yokai Omikuji” lets yokai disguised as constellations tell your fortune. Each attempt costs 200 yen (tax included). The yokai will deliver a message that you need right now.

Yokai Natsu Matsuri Ayashii Can Badges

The “Yokai Natsu Matsuri Ayashii Can Badges” are original can badges featuring yokai drawn with constellation lines. There are 8 types in random packs, so you won’t know which yokai you’ll get until you open it.

Yokai Natsu Matsuri Postcards

The “Yokai Natsu Matsuri Postcard” is a special card that evokes the feeling of stars floating in the night sky and the atmosphere of a yokai festival. It is recommended both as a souvenir of the event and for collecting.

Festival Food and Drinks

Festival food and drinks inspired by popular characters such as Kitaro, Medama-oyaji, and Nezumi-otoko will also be sold. These will be available in a special space that can be entered without a ticket.

The “Hi no Tama Starry Bottle” is a glowing bottle drink with ramune flavor, featuring a blueberry fireball floating inside. It comes with an event-original tag.

Other items include “Kitaro no Donut,” which looks like Kitaro’s chanchanko (vest), and “Nezumi-otoko no Cheese Potato Skewer,” which depicts Nezumi-otoko jumping up next to a gooey cheese potato skewer. Additional menu items are also planned.

Purchased items can be held while taking photos with the DOME1 video and photo panels, allowing visitors to capture memories of the yokai summer festival menu. (Note: Bringing items into DOME2 is not permitted.)
