The anime is based on the popular romantic comedy light novel series penned by Sun Sun Sun. The story first began its life as a web novel posted on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in May 2020. Kadokawa later picked up the series for print under their Sneaker Bunko imprint, releasing the first illustrated volume in February 2021. The illustrations for the light novel are handled by Momoco. The tenth volume of the light novel was just released on July 1.
Adding another dimension to the franchise, a manga adaptation by Saho Tanamachi started serialization on the Magazine pocket app in October 2022. Kodansha published the seventh volume of the manga on June 9.
Bringing Alya to English Readers
For international fans, both the light novel and manga have been licensed for English release by Yen Press. They acquired the rights to the light novel in April 2022 and the manga in December 2024.
English readers can already get their hands on the first volume of the manga, which went on sale on June 24, with the second volume scheduled to follow on September 23. The seventh volume of the light novel was released on May 13, and the eighth volume is expected on November 11.
