The original anime film Chou Kaguya-hime! has crossed a major box office milestone, and now fans can look forward to its home video release. The standard edition Blu-ray will hit stores on September 9, 2026, with an exclusive Animate purchase bonus featuring a tote bag and a set of six long photos.
To celebrate the announcement, a newly drawn jacket illustration by Hechima, the character designer for the virtual world Tsukuyomi, has been unveiled.
Chou Kaguya-hime! is an original feature-length anime film set in the virtual space Tsukuyomi, where girls form bonds through song. Blending elements of live streaming, music concerts, and social media culture, the film became a talking point especially among younger audiences. After streaming on Netflix from January 2026, it received a theatrical release starting February 20.
Although initially scheduled for only one week in theaters, the film saw every screening sell out as soon as reservations opened. It went on to attract over 1.2 million viewers and earned more than 2.5 billion yen at the box office. The extended run continued until June 18, and a revival screening—including special formats—is set to begin September 18.
Now, the standard edition Blu-ray of Chou Kaguya-hime! will be released on September 9, 2026.
Customers who purchase the Blu-ray at Animate will receive a tote bag featuring the beautiful jacket illustration, along with a set of six long photos. Each photo uses scene cuts of individual characters: Kaguya, Iroha, Yachiyo, Mikado, Rai, and Noi. These items are exclusive to Animate and are a must-see for fans.
