Kisekoi: Welcome Back Kitagawa-san! Gojou-kun Also Trended!? Enthusiastic Staff X Posts Flood In As Season 2 Starts [Episode 13 Spoiler Reactions Summary]

It’s Time! The Wait is Over: Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2 Finally Begins!

Summer anime Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru Season 2 started broadcasting on July 5, 2025, at 24:00 JST. Around three years after the first season aired as a winter anime back in January 2022, the series, commonly known as Kisekoi, is back! The first episode of Season 2 is episode 13, titled “Gojou Wakana 15 Years Old, Adolescence”.

Fukuda Shinichi’s manga series Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru was serialized in “Young Gangan”. While the original manga sadly concluded in March 2025, just before the anime Season 2 broadcast, the anime has made its appearance more powerful than ever before.

The story follows Gojou Wakana, a high school boy aiming to become a Hina doll craftsman (a “Kashirashi” who makes the dolls’ faces), and Kitagawa Marin, a popular girl who is always at the center of the class’s social circle. One day, a chance encounter leads them to deepen their bond through their shared passion for cosplay.

Behind the Scenes: Production Details and Staff Comments

Before the broadcast, Animation Producer Umehara Shouta (who is serving as production desk this time) revealed on his X (formerly Twitter) account that having Shinohara Keisuke return as director was an “absolute condition” for making the second season. With CloverWorks returning for animation production, just like in Season 1, fans’ expectations soared.

Interestingly, CloverWorks has a triple header starting on July 5th, with Seishun Buta Yarou wa Santa Claus no Yume wo Minai, Kisekoi Season 2, and Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku all premiering back-to-back! You can enjoy three CloverWorks titles in a single night. Come to think of it, three years ago, CloverWorks also aired Akebi-chan no Sailor Fuku and Kisekoi consecutively.

Umehara Shouta also commented on Character Designer and Chief Animation Director Ishida Kazumasa. The anime versions of Kitagawa-san and Gojou-kun, subtly different from Fukuda-san’s originals, are just wonderful.

On the broadcast day, Ono Atsushi, who voices Gojou Kaoru (Wakana’s grandfather), also watched the show live. The original author, Fukuda Shinichi, also released a special illustration commemorating the broadcast start.

Premiere Broadcast and Fan Reactions

And so, the broadcast began! However, as soon as the episode started, online, viewers quickly began posting bewildered reactions:

“Did I get the wrong anime?” “Is this Kisekoi?” “Is the channel correct?” “They’re showing a different anime.”

Viewers were confused by the sudden start of what seemed like another anime. What was going on? Despite the initial confusion, the new opening theme began. Following “Sansan Days” from Season 1, the new opening is “Ao to Kirameki” by Spira Spica. It’s another upbeat song that really gets you hyped up!

Once the opening finished, the “different anime” from the start was revealed to be Kochira Tsukiyono ◯ Company, or KochiKan for short (the ◯ is actually a heart mark), the in-show anime Gojou-kun was watching. By the way, the characters from Kochira Tsukiyono ◯ Company look like this:

When the main story finally began, Kitagawa-san was excitedly chatting with Gojou-kun, who has become quite the anime fan thanks to her influence. On social media, joyful voices exclaimed, “Welcome back~!”

Starting off at a quick pace, the characters moved dynamically across the screen, leading to many comments praising the animation quality like “The animation quality is high,” “The animation power is amazing,” “The animation is smooth.” There were also many reactions to the anime’s unique presentation, such as “The tempo is good and it’s interesting,” and “They move extraordinarily well.”

Working together with Kitagawa-san, Gojou-kun completes the cosplay outfit for the KochiKan character “Izayoi Arisa”. In the latter half of Episode 13, Kitagawa-san and Gojou-kun go to karaoke with their classmate Sugaya Noa (voiced by Takeda Rarisa Tago) and others. While Gojou-kun is nervous because he doesn’t know much about singing, Noa, true to the original manga, passionately belts out “Katame no Willie” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll wa Naritomanai”.

Online, there were joyful reactions like “I thought they’d swap it,” “It’s good they kept it like the original!” and “I didn’t expect them to cover it.” The songs were even listed in the opening credits under “Karaoke Songs”.

Unusually, the staff roll was included in the opening for Episode 13. Editor Hiraki Daisuke explained on X, “Please understand that the ED staff roll is in this OP. It wouldn’t fit in the regular length. But the main story has a huge volume, so please forgive us!”

Cast and Staff Share Their Thoughts

After the broadcast, Suguta Hina, who plays Kitagawa Marin, and Ishige Shouya, who plays Gojou Wakana, both posted their thoughts on X. The two were reportedly attending Anime Expo in Los Angeles, USA.

“How was it!? KochiKan was also super engaging, and the classmates and karaoke were the best, and seeing Gojou-kun and Marin-chan *there* just made my cheeks hurt from smiling!”

Youmiya Hina, who plays Inui Shinju, also shared her feelings on X. We’re looking forward to seeing Shinju-chan appear too!

“Watching the Kisekoi anime, various feelings welled up… like a warm nostalgia, and the excitement from Marin-chan and their conversations…”

On social media, “#KisekoiAnime” and even “Gojou-kun” trended! Isn’t that amazing?

Many production staff also posted on X after the broadcast! (A selection)

“This is the current culmination point of the team.”

Umehara-san’s words highlight CloverWorks’ confidence. Speaking of Kisekoi Season 2, the title for Episode 14 is “You Can Equip Oppai”.

On social media, the title is already a hot topic with comments like “You can equip oppai www” and “What does that even mean?” That concludes the summary of reactions to Episode 13.
