The summer anime Kimi ga Shinu made Koi wo Shitai (I Want to Love You Until You Die) aired its sixth episode, “Okaeri,” on August 11, 2026. As Sheena waits for Mimi to return from the battlefield, she receives a package addressed to Fran-sensei — but what’s inside is something she never expected.
A Delivery for Fran-sensei
In episode 6, Sheena had told Mimi, who was heading off to war, “I’ll be waiting. I’ll definitely be waiting. Come back without getting hurt.” The next day, Sheena goes to meet her. When she enters the room where the senior students have returned from the field, she finds it full of the wounded.
Viewers were shocked by the scene, with comments like “Such a brutal atmosphere,” “So many injured people,” “It’s basically a field hospital,” and “It was pretty much chaos.” When Sheena tells the school nurse Fran-sensei that she’s come to pick up Mimi, Fran tells her to wait in the back room.
As Sheena reaches the back room, someone knocks at the door leading outside. A package has arrived for Fran-sensei. Since the teacher isn’t there, Sheena answers. A man says, “Give this to Fran-sensei — I collected it as usual,” and leaves a bag behind. It’s large and very heavy.
Fans immediately grew suspicious: “That package… uh oh,” “She’s going to open it…” “What’s inside?” “No way…” Sheena doesn’t recognize the bag, but viewers could guess. Then the bag starts squirming, and Sheena’s legs give out.
Comments flooded in: “Don’t look! Absolutely don’t look!” “Don’t open it!” “You must not open that!” “This is already horror, lol.”
But before Sheena can peek inside, she hears a familiar voice. The bag contains a blood-soaked Mimi. She staggers up, slowly healing herself with her own magic, and is delighted to see Sheena. Despite her serious injuries, she insists, “I’m not hurt at all!”
Unable to hide the wounds, Mimi says, “Sorry I couldn’t keep your wish, Sheena.” Tears well up in Sheena’s eyes as she hugs her. It’s an emotional reunion, but viewers were a bit bewildered.
Reactions included: “Good, she wasn’t in pieces today… (not that that’s good),” “At least she kept her shape better than I expected,” “A blood-soaked Mimi coming out of a bag is kind of horror,” “I thought it’d be gorier, but she looks pretty clean,” “Even if she can heal herself, you don’t want to see her like this…” “That’s traumatizing…”
The “Mimi-style” Art Shift
Holding Mimi tight, Sheena apologizes: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. For saying don’t get hurt. I’m the one who doesn’t understand.” Mimi replies, “Mimi was happy,” which makes Sheena cry even harder. The two sob together.
Then Fran-sensei appears, exasperated: “What are you two doing?” At that moment, the art style suddenly changes, becoming more cartoonish. The original creator, Aono Nachi, posted on social media, “It suddenly became ‘art by Mimi’ and I laughed so hard.” Online fans were equally surprised: “The simple art style lol,” “It was so serious a second ago, then suddenly turned comedic,” “What is this art!?” “They chose that moment for a chibi style??” It was a different expression from the original manga.
Please Keep Blooming, Healthy, for as Long as Possible
In this battle, one student from Class 15 was seriously injured. The front lines are expanding, and the enemy is increasing its forces. The teachers feel that relying only on Mimi is no longer enough.
How can they increase their fighting strength? A few students show potential, but their current abilities are unclear. Testing them would require the senior students, who are already busy with real combat. Fran-sensei then makes a proposal.
Fans noted: “Is this the first time the war situation has come up?” “They’re still depending entirely on Mimi,” “Even with Mimi, the situation is tough…” The state of the war is a growing concern.
After washing off the blood, Mimi and Sheena skip class together and go behind the school building. Mimi realizes the flower crown Sheena gave her is missing from her pocket. They go looking and find it crushed on the floor. Saddened, Sheena leads Mimi to the courtyard, where she lets her pick flowers she likes and makes a new crown.
“Please keep blooming, healthy, for as long as possible. So that no matter how much you’re hurt, you can smile again and again. If there’s meaning in me living here, it’s surely——”
Sheena thinks these words in her heart, and Mimi responds with a brilliant smile. After the broadcast, animation studio ROLL2 released the original art for that moment.
Combat Proficiency Test
Mimi and her classmate Lijy Seiran are summoned by Omi-sensei, the homeroom teacher of Class 14. Omi-sensei calmly tells Seiran, “On the next holiday, you will undergo a combat proficiency test.”
The test determines whether a student has the ability to go to the battlefield. When Mimi asks, “What about Mimi?” Omi-sensei explains, “This test usually involves a one-on-one duel against a senior student. However, this time no student from Class 17 was available.”
Then she adds, “This time, Kagarisa will play the role of the senior student.” Seiran, who must duel Mimi, grows tense. The test requirements are also handed over.
Viewers were caught off guard too. Comments included: “A one-on-one duel,” “Seiran is going to fight?” “This is like a draft notice…” “So Seiran is being sent into combat instead of Sheena?” “A duel anime!?!?” “Mimi has to do that?” “The gap between Mimi and Seiran’s feelings is painful…”

After the meeting, Mimi and Seiran join Sheena and the others in the cafeteria. Mimi casually drops a bombshell: “Hey, listen! Mimi’s going to duel Seiran!”
“What? D-d-duel!?” Sheena panics. The cafeteria falls silent, then whispers start. Seiran declares, “I’m taking this test of my own will!”
Seiran and the others grew up at the school with no family to rely on. Sheena explains to Mimi that Seiran feels she must repay the school by being useful. And it’s not just Seiran — Sheena and the others have no choice but to repay through fighting. That’s part of their agreement with the institution.
Seiran’s Resolve
That night, Seiran’s roommate Ali points out that Seiran’s weakness might be hesitation born from emotion. Ali continues, “Even if it’s a classmate you eat with every day, once they become an enemy, can you fight to kill without letting emotions get in the way?” Ali promises to help Seiran train.
Seiran was once found by a teacher in the slums, on the verge of death. If that hadn’t happened, she would have died alone as a child, never meeting Ali. “Everything I have now is thanks to the school. So I want to be useful. I want to repay that debt properly.” For that, Seiran will fight anyone, no matter who.
Viewers were uneasy: “Repaying through fighting…” “In an orphanage, you’re taken in and raised in exchange for being sent to war — that’s the repayment…” “Ali must feel conflicted.” “They were all orphans who would have died without meeting someone important, but it’s painful that they have to go to war.” “That’s how everyone before went off to war.” “I’m already getting a bad feeling…”
Seiran decides to stop talking not only to Mimi but also to Sheena until the test. She and Ali begin magical training together.
After the broadcast, Thai animation studio Midasu Studio, which works on the production, also released animation footage online.
