Detective Precure! Episode 29 Reveals Kurea and Ruruka’s Past, Kurea Fails the Detective Test

TV anime Meitantei Precure! has unveiled the synopsis and advance scene cuts for episode 29, “Two People’s Past,” which begins airing on August 16, 2026.

The 23rd installment in the Precure series, Meitantei Precure! takes “detective” as its motif and carries the theme “See, feel, and think for yourself to reach the true answer.” The story begins when 14-year-old junior high school student Akechi Anna, who lives in Makoto Mirai Town, is led by a fairy named Pochitan who appears on her birthday and a pendant found in her room, sending her time-slipping from 2027 to the year 1999 in Makoto Mirai City.

There, she meets 14-year-old Kobayashi Mikuru, a girl who aspires to be a great detective. When a case unfolds — someone has had a precious item stolen, apparently the work of the Phantom Thief Group Phantom — Anna and Mikuru cannot ignore those in trouble. They transform into the Detective PreCure, using deduction to protect everyone’s smiles. The question remains: can Anna make it back to her own time?

Episode 29 “Two People’s Past” Synopsis

Detch Again activates a trick maze through Gōemon and adds his own ability to it, replaying the world of Kurea’s memories.

Lost inside the memory world, Anna and the others witness the scene of Kurea and Ruruka meeting in London three years ago. Mafuru, the chief of London’s Kyatto Detective Agency, tells them that “once, humans and fairies were the best partners, but eventually humans stopped believing in fairies,” and urges the two, “Please become the Detective PreCure to bring back everyone’s smiles.”

The detective test to enter the agency begins. Kurea and Ruruka tackle the case of a pot that vanished from a mansion. Ruruka immediately pinpoints where the pot went and passes, but Kurea, though she realizes the truth, cannot bring herself to say that the little girl who broke the pot is the culprit, and fails the test.

Before Mafuru, Kurea lowers her head and says, “I lack the ability,” but then—.

Episode 29 “Two People’s Past” airs on Sunday, August 16, at 8:30 AM on ABC TV and TV Asahi affiliates across 24 stations nationwide.
