Nyanko-sensei Gets “Picked Up”! Adorable “Tsumamare” Rubber Accessories from TV Anime Natsume Yuujinchou Revealed

Exciting news for fans of the TV anime Natsume Yuujinchou! Three new rubber accessories featuring Nyanko-sensei’s delightful reactions when “picked up” (つままれ – tsumamare) are making their debut. These items, using official newly drawn illustrations, will have a 先行販売 (senkou hanbai – advance sale) at the Natsume Yuujinchou Anime Official Online Store in September.

About Natsume Yuujinchou

Natsume Yuujinchou is an ayakashi contract tale based on the manga by Midorikawa Yuki, serialized in Gekkan LaLa. The story follows Natsume Takashi, a lonely young boy burdened by the secret of being able to see youkai (supernatural beings). Since inheriting the “Yuujinchou” (Book of Friends), an item left behind by his powerful grandmother Reiko, Natsume has been pursued by youkai. To navigate this, Natsume spends his busy days accompanied by Nyanko-sensei, his self-proclaimed bodyguard, dealing with the contracts his grandmother made with the youkai.

Anime Series History

The TV anime adaptation began with its first season in 2008 and has since aired six seasons in total. The main cast includes Kamiya Hiroshi as the protagonist Natsume Takashi and Inoue Kazuhiko as Nyanko-sensei. In September 2018, the series saw its first feature-length original episode released as a movie, followed by a limited theatrical screening of two popular short episodes in January 2021. The seventh season, Natsume Yuujinchou Utsushi, aired starting October 7, 2024.

Introducing the “Tsumamare” Series

Nyanko-sensei is now joining the “Tsumamare” series! This popular line from the brand “COSPA,” which sells official character costumes, apparel, and goods, features designs where the character looks like they are being *picked up* by your fingers when you hold the item from the top.

The New Nyanko-sensei “Tsumamare” Lineup

The Nyanko-sensei designs getting the “picked up” treatment are truly charming! First is the “Ebi Fry Daisuki Nyanko-sensei Tsumamare Mogumogu Ver.” (meaning “Beloved Fried Shrimp Nyanko-sensei Picked Up Chewing/Eating Ver.”), capturing him cutely refusing to let go of his beloved fried shrimp.

Next is the “Sakasa Nyanko-sensei Tsumamare Jitabata Ver.” (meaning “Upside Down Nyanko-sensei Picked Up Struggling Ver.”), showing him dangling upside down as if caught by his hind legs, struggling adorably.

Finally, there’s the “Nyanko-sensei Tsumamare Yokubari Banshaku Set Ver.” (meaning “Nyanko-sensei Picked Up Greedy Evening Drink Set Ver.”), featuring him holding dried squid and sake (perhaps “Nekokoroshi”? It certainly makes you wonder!).

Each accessory is approximately 60mm in size and boasts a satisfying 5mm thickness.

Release Information

General sales for these items are scheduled for early October. However, an advance sale will be held at the Natsume Yuujinchou Anime Official Online Store in September. The main reservation period for the advance sale is open until July 27th.
