The film version of Takopi no Genzai — officially titled Takopi no Genzai -Arigatou, Mata Ashita- — is set to open in Japanese theaters on November 27, 2026. Alongside the announcement, a special video has been released showing the cheerful alien Takopi declaring, “This time, I’ll turn this anime into a movie!”
Based on the manga by Taizan5, Takopi no Genzai began serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app in December 2021. The contrast between Takopi’s adorable appearance and the harsh realities faced by the children quickly captured readers’ attention, breaking the app’s record for most views of a series at the time. The manga ranked third in the male category of “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023” and has sold over 1.8 million copies (including digital) across its two volumes.
In June 2025, the series was adapted into an anime by TBS Television and ENISHIYA. Despite being a streaming-only series with no terrestrial broadcast, each new episode dominated social media trends upon release. The anime won the Best Anime award at the Filmarks Awards 2025, received seven nominations at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2026 including Anime of the Year, and took home the jury prize in the TV series category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026.
The film will re-edit all six episodes for theatrical release, adding new scenes. It will be screened at Shinjuku Wald 9 and other theaters nationwide.
In the newly released special video, Takopi is seen walking with Shizuka on a night road, expressing his determination to bring the anime to the big screen. Shizuka remarks, “Takopi’s ‘P’ must stand for Producer,” hinting at a new “TakoP (Producer)” project that will launch in the future. Fans are eager to see what Takopi will accomplish as a producer.
