8-gatsu 31-nichi no Long Summer Manga Gets TV Anime and Drama, Shaft to Animate

The manga 8-gatsu 31-nichi no Long Summer is set to receive both a TV anime and a TV drama adaptation. The TV anime’s animation production will be handled by Shaft, the studio known for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series and the Monogatari series.

About the Manga

8-gatsu 31-nichi no Long Summer is a “youth time-loop comedy” that confronts love head-on, written by Ito Ikkaku, the creator of Boku wa Oniku Janai. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine since March 2023.

The story follows high school students Suzuki-kun and Takagi-san, who meet within a repeatedly occurring August 31. Only the two of them carry their memories across each loop, continuing to face the same day. The suspected cause of the time loop is Suzuki-kun’s biggest unfulfilled goal from summer vacation… As of August 2026, the manga has released up to volume 13.

Dual Adaptation Announced

It has been announced that the series will receive both a TV anime and a TV drama adaptation. The TV anime’s animation production will be handled by Shaft, the studio behind the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series and the Monogatari series. Additionally, on Kodansha’s Comic Days platform, a special episode that can only be read today, August 31, is currently available. To celebrate the TV anime and drama announcements, Comic Days is also offering four volumes free for a limited one-week period.
