A brand-new anime project based on Akihito Yoshitomi’s iconic sci-fi manga EAT-MAN has been announced. Titled EAT-MAN The Over Order, the project will feature the original creator himself handling both script and design drafts, with Masashi Ebara reprising his role as the protagonist Bolt Crank.
To mark the announcement, a super teaser video and a newly illustrated teaser visual by Yoshitomi have been released, along with the first staff and cast details.
The teaser visual depicts Bolt Crank standing confidently in a vast world where ruin and development coexist. Clad in his signature long coat with flowing hair, he carries an enormous weapon, with mechanical debris piled at his feet. The sprawling structures stretching into the distance evoke a setting where civilization’s prosperity and decline exist side by side.

The super teaser video offers a first look at footage currently in production. It opens with the message, “For all who love the Heisei era,” before showing Bolt Crank picking up a fallen screw in a wasteland and quietly saying, “It’s time to work.” The clip then features the series’ signature scene of consuming metal, culminating in the word “Complete” as a massive weapon appears.
Masashi Ebara, who voiced Bolt Crank in previous EAT-MAN anime adaptations, returns for this new project. Expressing his joy at reuniting with the character after 30 years, he commented, “To think I’d meet Bolt Crank again after 30 years!” He added, “I’m overjoyed to share the excitement of taking on the beloved EAT-MAN once more with a new generation of voice actors across time and space!”
The staff lineup includes director Shunji Ooga, known for Golgo 13 and Three Kingdoms, with character designs by Satoshi Hirayama, who has worked on the Lupin III series. Animation production is handled by Studio Cab, led by Ooga. The project aims to bring the original work’s unique worldview and compelling characters to life with modern Reiwa-era visual expression.

This time, I was involved from the scriptwriting stage, and I wrote freely as the mood took me.
Unlike manga, it’s a collaborative effort, so it was a great learning experience.
Next, I’d like to try my hand at storyboards, so I plan to study up.
