Prepare for a Yokai Takeover! “Gegege no PARCO” Returns to Chofu PARCO in 2025
Fans of the beloved manga Gegege no Kitaro, get ready! The exciting collaboration event, “Gegege no PARCO,” is returning to Chofu PARCO in Tokyo’s Chofu City, powered up and ready for 2025! From November 18th, visitors can look forward to a fantastic array of limited-edition collaboration menus, special pop-up shops, and many other enchanting events.
The Enduring Legacy of Gegege no Kitaro
Manga artist Mizuki Shigeru’s timeless creation, Gegege no Kitaro, has captivated generations with its unique world. Centered around the titular character Gegege no Kitaro and his single-eyeballed father, Medama no Oyaji, the series features a colorful cast of eccentric characters like Nezumi Otoko and Neko Musume, all contributing to its enduring popularity.
The animated legacy of Gegege no Kitaro is just as rich, starting with its first TV anime series in 1968 and continuing to its sixth installment in 2018. In November 2023, the feature film Kitaro Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo (which can be translated as “Kitaro’s Birth: The Mystery of GeGeGe”) premiered, delving into the origins of Kitaro based on the sixth TV series. This was followed by a special, enhanced version, Kitaro Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo Shinsei-ban, released in October 2024. Furthermore, April 2025 marked the debut of the TV anime masterpiece selection, Gegege no Kitaro Watashi no Aishita Rekidai Gegege, commemorating the 10th anniversary of Mizuki Shigeru’s passing.
A Feast of Yokai Fun: What to Expect
The “Gegege no PARCO” event at Chofu PARCO is perfectly timed to coincide with Chofu City’s “Gegege-Ki” festival, running from November 18th to November 30th. During this period, Chofu PARCO will be completely taken over by yokai! Shoppers and diners will receive an exclusive Chofu PARCO novelty “Tote Bag,” featuring original campaign visuals, with their purchases and meals.
In-store restaurants and cafes are preparing a delectable array of limited-edition original menu items. Plus, the “Kitaro Shoten” (Kitaro Shop) POP UP STORE will open its doors, offering a treasure trove of Mizuki manga and Kitaro goods, including exclusive and pre-sale items. Not only that, but the “Gegege-Ki 2025 Toei Animation POP UP STORE” will also be present, showcasing original goods specifically for Gegege-Ki 2025.
And there’s even more to look forward to! A “Village Vanguard Pop-up Shop” will be on-site, featuring merchandise and books from Mizuki Shigeru’s representative works, alongside items from the official online store, “Yokai Shop.” This promises a truly rich and varied experience for all.
Throughout the event period, yokai will appear everywhere you look – from banners on Chofu PARCO’s exterior walls to inside Chofu Station, and on the in-store digital signage and special displays. Keep an eye out for the digital signage, with three unique designs at Chofu Station and six different versions within the PARCO building itself!
Exclusive Treats and Merchandise
At participating restaurants and cafes inside Chofu PARCO, spending 1,200 yen (tax included, cannot be combined) or more on food and drinks will net you one of eight types of “Gegege no PARCO exclusive stickers”! The collaboration menu is bursting with unique and delightful creations, such as the “Medama no Oyaji no Ichigo Tart” and the “Gegege no Zuccotto.” These popular character-themed dishes are not only fun to behold but also promise to be utterly delicious!
Beyond the delicious eats, don’t miss out on other special event-exclusive activities. You can find the limited-edition capsule toy, “Gegege no Kitaro Kifuda Keychain,” installed on the 5th floor within #C-pla. There’s also the “Gegege no Stamp Rally” as part of the Gegege-Ki celebrations, promising more fun and excitement for everyone!
