About Sumikko Gurashi
For those unfamiliar, Sumikko Gurashi is a charming San-X character series built around the endearing concept, “It’s somehow calming to be in a corner.” The cast includes the shy Shirokuma, the ever-questioning Pengin?, the fried pork cutlet Tonkatsu, the timid Neko, the lonely Tokage, and the leftover Ebifurai no Shippo. These characters, though a little negative or quirky, are brimming with unique personalities, and their comforting world has captivated hearts across all generations, from children to adults. In fact, Sumikko Gurashi celebrated its impressive 10th anniversary in 2022!
The beloved characters have also expanded their presence into animation. In April 2025, the TV anime Sumikko Gurashi Koko ga Ochitsukun desu began airing as part of Nippon TV’s morning news program, “ZIP!”. Furthermore, the fourth Sumikko Gurashi film, Eiga Sumikko Gurashi Sora no Oukoku to Futari no Ko (which can be translated as “Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: The Sky Kingdom and the Two Girls”), premiered on October 31st, delighting fans with a new big-screen adventure.

This newly announced “Gumi Gumi Party” theme truly takes off from that simple, charming moment when Pengin? discovered and brought back those tapioca-like gummies, inspiring a world of sugary delight for all the Sumikko friends.
