Netflix Purizumu Rinbukyoku: A Youth Love Story from Hana Yori Dango Creator Kamio Youko, Streaming January 2026!

The Netflix Series Prism Rondo, with original work, character design concept, and script by Kamio Youko, the acclaimed creator behind Hana Yori Dango, has been announced for a worldwide exclusive streaming debut on January 15, 2026. Alongside this exciting news, a trailer brimming with dreams, hopes, and even a hint of romance has been unveiled, alongside charming key art depicting the characters standing against the magnificent London cityscape. The formidable voice cast has also been revealed, with Tanezaki Atsumi (whose ‘Saki’ kanji is the ‘tatsu-saki’ variant) taking on the role of the protagonist, the international student Ichijouin Riri.

About Prism Rondo: A Tale of Ambition and Romance

Prism Rondo is a completely original anime brought to life by WIT STUDIO, known for works like B: The Beginning, under the direction of Nakazawa Kazuto. Set in the bustling backdrop of London, this series promises a youthful romance between a high-ranking aristocrat and an international student.

The story unfolds in early 1900s London. Ichijouin Riri (voiced by Tanezaki Atsumi), a Japanese girl aspiring to become a painter, crosses the seas to England and enrolls in London’s St. Thomas School of Art. Riri is absolutely thrilled about her first overseas adventure and dream art study abroad, but she’s actually already on the brink of disaster. She has a strict promise with her parents: if she can’t achieve the top rank in the academy within six months, she’ll be immediately sent back home!

Unlikely Duo: Riri and Kit’s Dynamic

From her very first day, Riri is burning with determination. However, she soon encounters Kit Church (voiced by Uchiyama Kouki), the son of a prominent aristocrat, a prodigy art student, and a bit of a free spirit—and a minor troublemaker. Riri’s rivalry sparks fiercely against him. What’s more, Kit, who previously only showed interest in painting, finds himself resonating with Riri’s straightforward and pure desire to improve her art, and then… what will happen between them?

How will the relationship blossom between Riri, the optimistic, curious, and somewhat clumsy international student, and Kit, the noble aristocrat with perfect artistic skill and overwhelming originality, yet absolutely no practical life skills? These two share nothing in common except their passionate love for painting.

A Rich Ensemble of Characters

Beyond our central pair, the story is further enriched by a vibrant cast of supporting characters. Among them are Shinnosuke (voiced by Kaji Yuuki), another Japanese international student, and his younger sister Sakura (voiced by Kitou Akari). We also meet Dorothy (voiced by Han Megumi), Riri’s housemate, as well as Kit’s friends: the outstanding student Peter (voiced by Sakata Shougo), and the cheerful Geoffry (voiced by Azakami Youhei).

Furthermore, the narrative introduces a diverse array of captivating characters, including Catherine (voiced by Uesaka Sumire), who is engaged to Kit; Riri’s mother, Ichijouin Take (voiced by Kaida Yuuko); Kit’s older brother, Richard (voiced by Suwabe Junichi); and Charles Brant (voiced by Ootsuka Houchu), a professor at the art academy. Their interwoven lives create a youthful ensemble drama, portraying young people struggling passionately as they strive to shine like a prism.

The Creative Minds Behind Prism Rondo

In this work, Kamio Youko, the acclaimed creator of Hana Yori Dango (also affectionately known as HanaDan), which brought to life iconic characters like Makino Tsukushi, Doumyouji Tsukasa, and Hanazawa Rui, and continues to enjoy immense popularity not only in Japan but across Asia, once again pens a heroine who powerfully overcomes societal differences.

Kamio-sensei passionately shared her thoughts, stating, “This is a story about our protagonist, Riri, courageously navigating her era with love, courage, and romance. In a world where it’s become difficult to voice dreams and hopes, and where everyday life is no longer taken for granted, I sincerely hope this work can become a beacon of light for everyone who watches it. We poured all our wishes into creating it. Each of the 20 episodes of Prism Rondo shines like a jewel, imbued with so many feelings. Please enjoy it on Netflix!”

Nakazawa Kazuto, serving as the director, is renowned for his work on the anime segment of the film Kill Bill and for both original creator and director roles in B: The Beginning. The animation production is handled by WIT STUDIO, acclaimed for titles like Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) and Moonrise. Beyond the dramatic plot, viewers can look forward to the exquisite art direction, showcasing London’s beautiful streetscapes and natural scenery. Furthermore, the theme song, “star flower” by Chilli Beans., which blends rock with next-generation sounds to evoke a sense of “freedom,” will beautifully color the narrative. Anticipation is certainly high for the Netflix Series Prism Rondo, which promises to teach us the preciousness of having dreams and dedicating oneself wholeheartedly to them.
