Dancing☆Star Precure The Stage (affectionately known as “Boku Puri” by fans, a play on words meaning “My Precure” or “Boys’ Precure”) made its debut during the Precure series’ 20th anniversary, marking the very first stage production in the franchise’s history. It tells the heartwarming story of original male Precure characters fulfilling their mission and dedicating their daily lives to dance. The stage play is approaching its grand finale with its third installment, scheduled for December 2025.
Kimi to Idol Precure♪ (“Kimi Puri”) is the latest installment in the long-running Precure series. The main theme revolves around idols, following the adventures of Sakura Uta, a second-year middle school student who transforms into Cure Idol and brightens the darkest corners with her radiant glow.

This newly released post-recording report for episode 39 showcases the stage members giving their all during the recording session, with staff members closely watching and giving directions from the booth. The report also includes comments from the cast after they completed their takes.

Get ready for more excitement! The second collaboration dance video between Kimi to Idol Precure♪ and Dancing☆Star Precure has also been released. This must-see video features the Precure characters performing a dazzling dance routine set to Dancing☆Star Precure‘s main theme song, “Do the Dancing☆Star Precure.”

In further celebration of this incredible collaboration, the first stage play of Dancing☆Star Precure will be available for a limited-time free streaming event! It will premiere on November 8 at 12:00 PM (JST) and be available for viewing until November 9, offering a fantastic opportunity for new and old fans alike to experience “Boku Puri” from the beginning.

Behind the Scenes: The Post-Recording Report

The report details the atmosphere inside a recording studio in Tokyo. The “Boku Puri” members, dressed in the uniforms of Kousei High School – their characters’ attire – entered the booth for the TV anime Kimi to Idol Precure♪ (Kimi Puri). They were full of spirit, checking their lines and encouraging each other. While a little nervous, the spacious booth, equipped with multiple microphones and monitors, offered comfort in knowing they could record together as a team. Character designer Kawamura Toshie, along with “Boku Puri” staff and related personnel, observed from the control room through a glass partition.

The session began with an explanation from Toei Animation’s Washio Ten-san, the stage play’s supervisor, and Ima Chiaki-san, the series director for “Kimi Puri,” addressing the members in the booth. Washio-san light-heartedly prefaced his remarks by saying, “The principal’s speech will be long~,” leading to laughter in the booth, especially with the witty exchanges between him and Ima Chiaki-san, who had also attended “Boku Puri” stage performances. Washio-san’s encouraging words, “Just do your best and be as energetic as usual,” helped ease the cast’s tension, and the recording promptly began.

Since many of the cast members were new to anime post-recording, the session proceeded carefully, with each line and even small reactions like nods being recorded individually. While some parts of the animation displayed on the monitor were still incomplete, the cast needed to be flexible with their delivery and pacing to match the scene’s length. Unlike stage acting, which involves full-body expression, this required concentrating their performance solely through their voices and maintaining a high level of vocal energy.

The first to record a line was Tamura Shougo, who plays Cure Top / Hoshikawa Gaku. His vibrant voice immediately brightened the room, bringing to mind Gaku’s energetic presence on stage. Director Ima Chiaki-san provided precise directions, such as “One word at a time, don’t rush” and “The end might be a bit too fluid.” Tamura-san absorbed each piece of feedback, clearing every challenge like a true protagonist.
“Boku Puri” then had a section where they reacted together. Takizawa Ryo, who plays Cure Rock / Natsume Hayato, took the lead. He was the only member with prior anime post-recording experience. For lines where voices needed to be synchronized, he proactively suggested, “Should I say ‘Se~no’ (ready, set, go)?” and actively clarified the direction of the performance, guiding the recording session with his initiative.

Morita Kiriya, playing Cure Soul / Tsukimiya Sasana, faced a bit of a challenge. He found himself thinking, “How did I usually do this…?” But Washio-san offered helpful advice: “He casually brushes off popularity from his junior club members. There was a softness to his condescending attitude, right?” The “Boku Puri” producer also chimed in with “Your usual smile!” Morita-san bravely fought through retakes, finally infusing the character with such conviction that the staff collectively exclaimed, “Ooh!”
Terasaka Raiga, who portrays Cure Kagura / Tengen Kouga, utilized his experience from tokusatsu (special effects hero) shows, nailing most of his reaction lines in a single take. Members watching from the back of the booth praised him with comments like “As expected!” and “That’s why he’s transformed so many times!” Terasaka-san responded with a sheepish smile. Pay close attention to Cure Kagura’s transformation scene and the koujou (introductory speech), where he showcases elegant Japanese dance-inspired Kagura moves on stage.

Kozuji Iori, playing Cure Break / Kurose Maito, is the youngest member of the cast. When “Boku Puri” began, he was still a high school student, just like his character. Despite this being his first anime post-recording experience, he approached it with remarkable composure, earning widespread praise.
Wagou Shinichi, who voices the fairy Padoudou, brought laughter not only to the recording booth but also to the control room. The moment he saw the animated Padoudou on the monitor, Wagou-san sweetly whispered in his handsome voice, “So cute…” His recorded lines, delivered with a deep, charming voice, sparked a lively discussion among the staff, with comments like “Is this okay?” and “Is this allowed? (laughs).” Ultimately, Washio-san gave his seal of approval, declaring, “Padoudou is an old man, so it’s okay!” Anticipation is high for the audience’s reaction to Padoudou’s dual charm, captivating with different voices for his human and fairy forms.

Director Ima Chiaki-san provided timely and precise directions to the cast throughout, ensuring a smooth process. He also made sure to confirm with the “Boku Puri” staff that the characters remained consistent. Episode director Murakami Takayuki-san and the other “Kimi Puri” staff members also frequently discussed and clarified the emotions behind scenes that caught their attention.

The climax of the recording session was a battle scene where the five “Male Precure” members shouted their battle cries in unison. Takizawa-san called out “Se~no” to synchronize their voices, but getting the endings of their lines to match proved challenging. It’s a known hurdle; even in Precure movie productions with large ensembles, scenes requiring simultaneous shouting often demand numerous retakes.
Each time Director Ima Chiaki-san called out “Almost there!”, the cast’s energy and concentration only intensified. Despite admitting “It’s hard in the booth since on stage we can make eye contact,” they continued to try with smiles, clearly enjoying the challenging yet rewarding atmosphere. Morita-san noticed Tamura-san raising his right arm in sync with the battle scene’s animation and murmured, “I’ll try to match Top’s (=Tamura-san’s) hand by looking sideways.” Takizawa-san then proposed, “Alright, let’s use his conducting as our cue!” With everyone’s hearts united, the very next take received a unanimous “OK!”

The post-recording session truly highlighted the cast’s teamwork, as they celebrated each other with “good job” poses and offered advice to those facing difficulties. Fans eagerly await the broadcast of episode 39, which promises to be packed with the passion of both the “Kimi Puri” staff and the “Boku Puri” members.

Cast Comments

Here are the full comments from the cast members after their recording session!

Cure Top / Hoshikawa Gaku: Tamura Shougo

Cure Top / Hoshikawa Gaku: Tamura Shougo

“It was my first time doing post-recording for anime, and I really felt how much more skill is needed, but it was a truly wonderful experience. The fact that ‘Boku Puri’ could participate in ‘Kimi Puri’ makes me feel like we’ve been recognized a little by the fans who love the Precure series. I think many people will learn about us through this opportunity, so I hope you’ll come to see ‘Boku Puri’ too! We deliver plenty of passion through dance and action! Episode 39, with ‘Kimi Puri’-chan and ‘Boku Puri’ – two Precure groups – appearing together, I think it’s going to be a super fun episode. I hope both ‘Kimi Puri’ fans and those who support us ‘Boku Puri’ members will enjoy it!”

Cure Rock / Natsume Hayato: Takizawa Ryo

“To all ‘Kimi Puri’ viewers, pardon our intrusion! Since ‘Boku Puri’ has been a stage series, I felt a different kind of tension and the difficulty of synchronizing voices as a group during the post-recording. It’s truly humbling, but I would be grateful if you could watch us with a warm heart. I approached this with the hope of finding something that connects to the third installment of ‘Boku Puri,’ which opens in December. ‘Precure’ series has my full respect. As ‘Male Precure,’ we are also working very hard with a sense of responsibility! If you watch episode 39 and become curious about ‘Boku Puri’s’ activities, I hope you’ll check out our stage series.”

Cure Soul / Tsukimiya Sasana: Morita Kiriya

“I’ve been watching ‘Kimi Puri’ since it started, so I was incredibly happy that ‘Boku Puri’ could also join that world. Anime post-recording was my first time and very difficult; I must have said my transformation speech countless times (laughs). I received advice from Washio-san and the staff, which was a truly valuable experience. The transformation scenes for the ‘Boku Puri’ characters, each one, were so moving! I’m really looking forward to seeing the completed scenes on air. I think this will be the first time many people learn about ‘Boku Puri,’ so if you’re interested, I hope you’ll come to the theater.”

Cure Kagura / Tengen Kouga: Terasaka Raiga

Cure Kagura / Tengen Kouga: Terasaka Raiga

“This post-recording really made me realize just how difficult it is to give voice and breathe life into anime. It was a precious experience that deepened my respect for anime productions, especially ‘Precure.’ I’m very grateful that the staff members guided me so thoroughly, allowing me to approach it with enthusiasm. The ‘Boku Puri’ members have surely boosted their ‘Precure power’ immensely through this collaboration! I hope everyone can feel that special sparkle of ‘Kimi Puri’-san and ‘Boku Puri’ existing in the same space. To those eagerly watching ‘Kimi Puri’ now, and to those who have loved the Precure series throughout the years, I hope you’ll come to love us ‘Boku Puri’ too. Please give us your support!”

Cure Break / Kurose Maito: Kozuji Iori

Cure Break / Kurose Maito: Kozuji Iori

“Hello everyone, watching ‘Kimi Puri.’ I’m Kozuji Iori. We did our best in the post-recording to ensure we didn’t disrupt the world of ‘Kimi Puri.’ It was my first time doing anime post-recording, and it was a really fun and new sensation. Before going into the studio, I secretly thought it might be a tense atmosphere (laughs). But it wasn’t like that at all; the staff members were incredibly warm. ‘Boku Puri,’ which we’ve been performing on stage, can now participate in the Precure series that I’ve watched for so long. Thinking about my own voice as Cure Break airing at that Sunday morning time slot just fills me with unstoppable excitement! I’m really looking forward to the broadcast, and I hope everyone enjoys episode 39.”

Padoudou: Wagou Shinichi

“I was very honored to be given such an opportunity. When the stage adaptation was announced, ‘Boku Puri’ received a huge response, and now it’s become a series and will even appear in the ‘Kimi Puri’ anime. I was surprised with a ‘No way!’ but also delighted. However, considering that Precure itself has always embraced the theme of ‘destroying existing concepts and creating anew,’ perhaps this is a natural progression. It’s the power of Precure that makes the unexpected come true. I’m slightly concerned if this old man’s – no, this older brother’s voice – will properly match the cute, fluttering Padoudou (laughs). On stage, Padoudou is a character who’s constantly called out as ‘an old man fairy’ – no, ‘a fairy old man’! On stage, I maintain the Padoudou voice for two to three hours, but for this recording, I poured all my energy into just a few seconds, so please pay attention to it. We’re all looking forward to the broadcast episode!”
