An Epic Journey Concludes: “Boku no Hero Academia FINAL SEASON” Wins ABEMA Special Award
The new future of television, “ABEMA,” broadcast the massive anime award show “Nihon Anime Trend Taishou 2025” (Japan Anime Trend Awards 2025) on its “Anime SPECIAL Channel” starting at 7:00 PM on December 26th. During the program, ABEMA held the “Japan Anime Trend Awards Ceremony,” where winners for each category were announced based on data collected from major media outlets and rigorous judging by ABEMA itself.
It has now been decided that the second ABEMA Special Award is granted to the TV anime ‘Boku no Hero Academia FINAL SEASON’ (also known as My Hero Academia).
A Decade-Long Hero Story Reaches Its Climax
“Nihon Anime Trend Taishou 2025” looked back at the trends of 2025 while also introducing hot topics for 2026. The main MC was Iwai Yuuki from the comedy duo Haraitchi, with Hikasa Yooko as the sub-MC. Guest appearances included anime-loving celebrities like Tokui Sora, Inukai Takaaki, Akase Akari, and Tenshindon Tarou.
This time, the second ABEMA Special Award, given to works that generated particularly high levels of passion based on a comprehensive judgment of factors like “X Corp data” and “ABEMA viewer response,” was awarded to TV anime ‘Boku no Hero Academia FINAL SEASON’. The series aired its final episode, “Boku no Hero Academia,” on December 13, 2025, bringing the curtain down on the anime series that began in April 2016.
Massive Social Media Buzz
The finale caused a huge reaction on social media, with the hashtag “#ヒロアカ” (#HiroAka) trending at number one. Other related keywords like “Deku-kun” and “Horikoshi-sensei” also consistently ranked high. The series, which received a flood of praise from viewers with comments like “It was the best story” and “I can’t stop crying,” was selected for the ABEMA Special Award.
Deku himself appeared at the award venue, expressing his feelings about receiving the award with gestures. A comment also arrived from Oyabu Yoshihiro, a producer from BONES FILM, the animation production studio for ‘HeroAca’.
Furthermore, it was announced that an episode titled “More,” with an original story drawn by Horikoshi Kouhei, will be animated and released on May 2, 2026. The heroes’ story is one you won’t want to miss until the very end.
Award Comments
BONES FILM – Producer Oyabu Yoshihiro
“Thank you very much for the ABEMA Japan Anime Trend Awards 2025 ‘Special Award.’ And to all the HeroAca fans who have watched the series for ten years, right up to the final episode, I have nothing but gratitude. The ten years we ran at full speed with our fans felt long yet short, and while it hasn’t fully sunk in yet, there’s a slight loneliness that it’s over. However, the fact that we were able to deliver HeroAca to everyone with all our might until the very end has made it an irreplaceable, treasure-like work. I am proud that the final series, created together with all the staff, received such high praise. Once again, thank you very much.”
