A New Episode Heats Up the “Death Painting” Arc!
Get ready for the next intense chapter! The official website for the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen has revealed the synopsis and preview images for Episode 52, “Heat” (Season 3, Episode 5). This episode, which kicks off the “Death Painting” game in earnest, begins broadcasting on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
What’s the Show About?
Jujutsu Kaisen is a dark fantasy manga by Gege Akutami that depicts the battle between Curses, born from human negative emotions, and the Jujutsu Sorcerers who exorcise them. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump for over six and a half years, from March 2018 to September 2024. The series has sold a staggering 150 million copies in circulation, including digital versions. Since September 2025, a near-future spin-off manga titled Jujutsu Kaisen ≡ (Modulo), with original story by Akutami and art by Yuuji Iwasaki, has been in serialization.
The anime adaptation started with its first TV season from October 2020 to March 2021. Its first film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, was a massive worldwide hit, grossing 26.5 billion yen. The TV anime’s second season, “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” and “Shibuya Incident,” aired from July to December 2023, creating huge waves not just in Japan but across the globe. Season 3, “Death Painting – First Part,” dives into the deadly battle royale known as the “Death Painting,” orchestrated by the history’s most evil sorcerer, Kenjaku.

Following the Shibuya Incident, Yaga has been sentenced to death. Assassins, and then Gakuganji, appear before him.
Meanwhile, having left the Star Corridor, Itadori Yuuji and Fushiguro Megumi head to the venue of a gambling match hosted by Kinshi Hakari, a suspended third-year at Jujutsu High, to ask for his cooperation.
Since Kinshi has a rocky relationship with the higher-ups, the two must hide their identities to avoid being recognized as Jujutsu High affiliates. They infiltrate the gambling match, the “Gachinko Fight Club Tournament“…
