Anime Adaptation Officially Greenlit

Great news for fans of heartwarming josei stories! Publishing giant Kodansha has officially announced that Haruka Kawachi‘s beloved manga, Namidaame to Serenade (also known as Rainy Day Serenade), is getting the anime treatment. The announcement came with a beautiful new illustration drawn by Kawachi-sensei herself to celebrate the occasion. Mark your calendars, because this time-slip romance is scheduled to make its television debut in 2027.

About the Original Manga

The source material has a solid history. Namidaame to Serenade was serialized in Kodansha’s Kiss magazine, a premier destination for josei narratives, running from November 2014 all the way through to November 2025. The series is currently wrapping up, with its 13th volume released in April 2025 and the 14th and final volume set to hit shelves on February 13. This timing suggests the anime will be a wonderful way to celebrate the completion of the manga’s journey.

A Story of Rain, Memories, and Time Travel

So, what’s it all about? The story follows Hina Katagiri, a modern high school student who has always been haunted by vague, rainy-day dreams of a mysterious boy from her childhood. She writes them off as fantasy—until the day she’s suddenly whisked away from her school and finds herself in the backyard of a lavish mansion… in the year 1907.

There, she’s mistaken for Hinako Kitamine, the fiancée of the elegant Takaaki Hongou. Thinking it’s all an incredibly vivid dream, Hina plays along. But the reality hits hard when she meets the *real* Hinako. Now stranded in the past and having lost a precious family heirloom in the Hongou house, Hina must continue the charade with Hinako’s help to navigate this unfamiliar era and recover her necklace. Complicating everything are the very real feelings she begins to develop for Takaaki, making the line between her past and present dangerously blurred.
