DanMachi 6th Season Announcement

Exciting news for fans! At the “Aedes Vesta” 10th Anniversary Event held on Saturday, it was officially announced that Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka (also known as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? or simply DanMachi) is getting a sixth season! The announcement came with a promotional video to hype up the crowd.

A Look Back at the Anime Journey

The anime series has been a consistent presence since its debut. Produced by J.C.Staff, the first season aired in Spring 2015 with 13 episodes. It was followed by a second season in Summer 2019, a third in Fall 2020, and a fourth season that aired in split cours during Summer 2022 and Winter 2023. The most recent fifth season wrapped up in Fall 2024 with 15 episodes.

Beyond the main series, there’s also the Orion no Ya (Arrow of the Orion) side story anime movie that hit theaters in February 2019. Additionally, Warner Bros. Japan has released three original video anime (OVA) episodes over the years, in December 2016, January 2020, and April 2021.

Roots in Print: The Light Novels and Manga

The story originates from the light novel series written by Fujino Omori with illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda. Omori first submitted the work for the 4th GA Bunko Award in 2012 and received a publication offer. SB Creative began publishing the novels in January 2013, and as of last year, the 21st volume was released on October 11. The series has achieved impressive success, with a cumulative circulation of over 20 million copies.

On the manga front, the first adaptation was drawn by Kunieda and serialized in Young Gangan from August 2013 to September 2018. A second manga adaptation, illustrated by Taisei Yagami, started in the same magazine in December 2019. Square Enix published the sixth volume of this adaptation in February 2025.

Expanding the Universe: Sword Oratoria

The franchise also includes the side story Sword Oratoria, which focuses on a different set of characters. J.C.Staff produced a 12-episode anime adaptation in Spring 2017, covering the first four volumes of the novel. The light novel series, also written by Fujino Omori with illustrations by Kiyotaka Haimura, continues to be published by SB Creative, with the 16th volume released last October. Similarly, the manga adaptation by Takashi Yagami is ongoing, with Square Enix releasing the 32nd volume in the same month.

What’s Next?

With the sixth season now confirmed, fans can look forward to more adventures in the dungeon. While specific details like release date and staff are yet to be revealed, the announcement alone is enough to build anticipation. Stay tuned for more updates!
