‘Fist of the North Star’ Episode 7: Mad Sarge’s ‘Tawaba!’ and Kenshiro’s Showdown with GOLAN

In the previous episode (episode 6), Kenshiro and Bat arrived in a new town. There they encountered a fanatical organization called GOLAN that aims to build a country for the chosen few: ‘God Land’. Kenshiro learns that among the women they have abducted is the girl ‘Lin’, whom he saved in episode 1. He chases after them and retrieves Lin, then decides to storm GOLAN’s headquarters to prevent such tragedies from recurring…!

Last week’s broadcast ended just as Kenshiro began his battle with the demon instructor of the special forces ‘Red Beret’, ‘Mad Sarge’. So this week’s episode 7 of ‘Fist of the North Star -FIST OF THE NORTH STAR-‘ restarts from the beginning of the battle sequence. Then he takes on the next formidable enemy. The one who stands in his way is a ‘Man of Nanto’ following after Shin.

In this article, we pick up viewer reactions posted on X (Twitter) and bring you the intense battle scenes as Kenshiro goes on a rampage against GOLAN.

The Truth of the ‘Apocalyptic World’ Is Revealed…!

‘God has chosen us in this war!’ declares Mad Sarge to the trainees, preaching how noble it is to join GOLAN. Entrusted with training GOLAN’s soldiers, he proudly sends his fearless troops against the arriving Kenshiro. Having survived Mad Sarge’s hellish training, these soldiers are confident that they can overwhelm any ‘mere brute’ with their numbers. But their opponent is Kenshiro. The gap in strength is simply too vast.

Kenshiro coolly defeats the attacking soldiers, snatching their club-like weapons and knocking them to the ground. Viewers comment, ‘This is a rare weapon action scene for Kenshiro,’ ‘Kenshiro is also good with a staff,’ ‘He even uses the enemy’s weapons. Impressive,’ as they watch with arms folded in approval.

Mad Sarge, acknowledging Kenshiro’s strength ‘to some extent,’ then unleashes his prized knife technique, boasting that it has tasted the blood of many enemy soldiers on the battlefield.

‘You can’t escape by dodging like that! My knife can stab 10 times per second!!’ He tries to corner Kenshiro, who evades lightly.

Viewers were surprised at ’10 times per second?!’ but also compared it to the legendary 16 consecutive shots of game master ‘Takahashi Meijin’, a figure of admiration in the kids’ culture of that era. In the shooting game competitions that would now be called e-sports, Takahashi Meijin achieved 16 consecutive shots per second with just his finger vibrations, earning envy from kids. A live-action film starring Meijin was even produced at the time, featuring a special effects scene where he broke a watermelon with his 16-shot technique, which became a hot topic.

However, even this fearsome battlefield knife technique is like child’s play to Kenshiro, who has mastered a secret assassination art passed down through generations. He hits a pressure point, and Mad Sarge meets a swift end.

‘It seems he didn’t realize he was killed,’ Kenshiro says. Viewers recalled the classic line ‘You are already dead,’ and also posted in succession the word ‘tawaba!’—Mad Sarge’s death cry, which stands alongside ‘hidebu’ and ‘abeshi’—satisfied with its Reiwa-era rendition.

Furthermore, viewers were pleased with Kenshiro’s cool lines. To ‘Do you think I would let a scumbag like you live?’ they reacted with ‘Good line.’ And at the beginning of the battle with Mad Sarge, when Mad Sarge said ‘God has chosen us in this war!’ Kenshiro replied ‘I don’t recall being chosen,’ then when Mad Sarge shouted ‘Who are you?!’ Kenshiro answered ‘The Grim Reaper.’ Although it was a recap clip from the previous episode, it left an impression.

Having extracted the location of the organization’s leader ‘Colonel’ from Mad Sarge, Kenshiro heads alone to the headquarters to put an end to this tragedy. Waiting for him is the one Mad Sarge feared as ‘That person is a psychic!!’—the Colonel, who masterminded the construction of ‘God Land’.

The Colonel originally had strong convictions and served his nation with pride. However, the generals and corporate executives to whom he dedicated his life were degenerate beings who indulged in pleasure and wielded power as they pleased. No matter how strong GOLAN’s organizational power was, they were mocked for being no match for a single missile launched at the general’s fingertip, and their pride was shattered.

And just as those foolish words predicted, the nuclear missile launch button was pressed, and civilization was quickly destroyed. Then the Colonel and his followers thought: ‘We survived because of our trained bodies.’

Thus, to avoid repeating the same mistakes, the Colonel decided to create God Land, believing that they (the self-proclaimed chosen) would preserve an elite race. Viewers expressed doubt with ‘Really? But all that actually appears are muscular guys, so maybe it’s true,’ but they accepted it.

The situation then moves to the actual showdown between Kenshiro and the Colonel.

It turns out the Colonel had mastered one of the Nanto Seiken styles, ‘Nanto Muonken’ (Silent Nanto Fist), and he seemed to overwhelm Kenshiro with a fighting style that could be mistaken for psychic powers. But the Colonel’s confident smile gradually froze, and he was crushed by the assassination techniques of Hokuto. For a moment, Lin and Bat, who had followed Kenshiro out of concern, brought danger, but by then the battle was already decided, leading to a reversal.

Viewers were on edge watching ‘Lin’s incredible initiative,’ ‘Lin is being pretty reckless,’ but as Kenshiro treated Lin gently, they felt the magnanimity of the ‘Savior of the End of the Century,’ commenting, ‘That’s Kenshiro for you, not blaming Lin here.’

Thanks to Kenshiro’s efforts, another glimmer of hope appears in the post-apocalyptic world. What will happen in the next episode, and when will Kenshiro’s next appearance come? The next broadcast is on May 15 (Friday) at 25:00.
