A chapter closes for a beloved print magazine
After more than three decades of covering books, manga, anime, and voice actors, KADOKAWA’s monthly magazine Da Vinci will end its print run with the November 2026 issue, released on October 6, 2026. The announcement was made on May 26 via the magazine’s official X account and KADOKAWA’s website.
Da Vinci was first launched in April 1994 by Recruit as a book information magazine. It later moved to Media Factory and, from 2013 onward, has been published by KADOKAWA. Billed as an “entertainment magazine for books and comics,” its pages frequently featured manga, anime, and voice actor content alongside literary features.
Over the years, the magazine gained attention for its striking covers. Notable examples include a My Hero Academia special featuring Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki; a One Piece special with Luffy and Shanks; and a cover for the Fate/Grand Order – Divine Round Table Realm Camelot film arc starring voice actors Miyano Mamoru and Sakamoto Maaya.
In its official statement, KADOKAWA explained that the decision comes “against the backdrop of dramatic changes in the publishing market and the diversification of readers’ information consumption styles.” The company said it has chosen to “draw a line under the role of the print medium” and will instead “pass on and develop the editorial strengths and brand cultivated over the years to the next stage.”
While the print magazine is ending, its sister website, Da Vinci Web, will continue operating. KADOKAWA stated that the web edition will “succeed the spirit and mission that the magazine has cherished, and using the mobility unique to the web, strive to provide even richer content.”
