LaLa Magazine 50th Anniversary Original Art Exhibition to Be Held in Tokyo and Osaka

Hakusensha’s monthly shoujo manga magazine LaLa is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a special exhibition titled “Soushukan 50 Shuunen Kinen LaLa Gaten – Miwaku no Creation” (50th Anniversary LaLa Original Art Exhibition – Enchanting Creation). The event will run in Tokyo from July 17, 2026, and in Osaka from September 5, 2026.

Since its launch in 1976, LaLa has produced countless beloved series. The exhibition, themed “Tokimeki no, Tsukurikata” (How to Create Excitement), looks back at the magazine’s history. It focuses not only on the works themselves but also on how the magazine’s pages were crafted over different eras and how it connected with readers. Visitors will be able to experience from multiple angles how LaLa has generated and delivered that sense of excitement for five decades.

At the venue, over 200 original drawings by a total of 76 artists—from legendary creators to those currently serializing popular works—will be on display. Fans can closely appreciate characters’ expressions, delicate linework, and vivid colors.

The exhibition also traces LaLa‘s 50-year journey through a collection of past covers from its founding to the present, as well as period-specific magazine pages and related materials. The lineup includes nostalgic displays that will stir memories for longtime readers and fresh discoveries for newer fans, making it enjoyable across generations.

In addition, rare physical materials will be shown, including the very first issue from 1976, contemporary magazines and supplements, and storyboard drafts (name) that offer a glimpse into the creative process. Beyond the finished works, visitors can sense the breath of production behind them.

The venue will also feature photo spots that evoke the worlds of the series, as well as an interactive corner where attendees can leave their own “tokimeki.” A “Tokimeki Phrase” section highlighting memorable lines from the works and a message board for writing thoughts about the series are also planned.

At the goods corner, original merchandise will be sold, including the “Soushukan 50 Shuunen Kinen LaLa Gaten Koushiki Visual Book – Miwaku no Creation,” a tote bag, a ribbon key charm, and an A4 clear file. As a visitor bonus, cards will be distributed: on weekdays, a different design each day; on weekends, one of five types at random.

In conjunction with the Osaka venue, a collaboration cafe will be held at #702 CAFE&DINER Namba Parks Store.

This commemorative exhibition offers a chance to experience 50 years of LaLa‘s “tokimeki” through original art and precious archival materials.
