CoroCoro’s Time-Leap x Action “Unmei no Makimodoshi” Gets TV Anime Adaptation by the “Kekkai Sensen” Team!
The manga “Unmei no Makimodoshi” by Kimura Fuuta, currently serialized in “Gekkan CoroCoro Comic,” has been officially announced to receive a TV anime adaptation. The series will be directed by Matsumoto Rie, known for her work on “Kekkai Sensen,” with animation production handled by Bones Film and production by STORY inc. To celebrate the announcement, a super teaser visual and super teaser PV have been released, along with comments from original author Kimura-sensei and Director Matsumoto-kantoku.
“Unmei no Makimodoshi” is a thrilling time-leap x action manga by Kimura Fuuta that boasts incredible popularity, being the first title in the history of “Gekkan CoroCoro Comic” to hold the number one spot in popularity polls for 12 consecutive months. The story follows the adventures of the special task force of the Space-Time Police, known as “Makimodoshi-shi” (literally “Rewinders”), who use the time machine “Retry Eye” embedded in their right eye to repeatedly rewind time and save those who have met tragic ends.
The manga currently has 9 volumes published, with the highly anticipated 10th volume scheduled for release on July 28th. The series has garnered praise from numerous top-tier creators across various fields, including Tsujimura Mizuki (“Kagami no Jyo”), Kawamura Genki (“Shigatsu ni Nareba Kanojo wa”), Kodaka Kazutaka (“Danganronpa”), Fujii Taiyoo (“Hello World”), Urobuchi Gen (“Mahou Shojo Madoka☆Magika”), and Eve (“Kaikaikitan”).
This marks Matsumoto Rie’s return to directing a TV anime series after 10 years since “Kekkai Sensen” aired. The animation production will be handled by Bones Film, a studio globally popular for its high-quality visuals in titles such as “Hagane no Renkinjutsushi,” “Boku no Hero Academia,” and “Kookyooshihen Eureka Seven.” Notably, staff members from the TV anime “Kekkai Sensen” and the Pokémon Special Music Video “GOTCHA!” will be reuniting for this production.
Furthermore, STORY inc., the company that brought Shinkai Makoto’s talent to the world with mega-hit films like “Suzume no Tojimari,” has been revealed to be handling the production. This will be STORY inc.’s first venture into producing a TV series anime.
To commemorate the TV anime adaptation, the protagonist Chrono will grace the cover and lead color pages of the “Gekkan CoroCoro Comic” August issue, which goes on sale around July 15th. Unlike the magazine’s usual vibrant image, this commemorative issue’s cover features a chic color scheme, making it a must-see for fans. “Unmei no Makimodoshi” is a story about saving people. And, as the title suggests, it’s a story about returning to the past.
Seeing the protagonist, Chrono, repeatedly travel back and forth between the past and future to rescue targets from the fate of death (stopping), diligently recording and reflecting on his failures while pushing forward despite being completely worn out – it warms my heart every time.
Also, he holds the conviction that he must save “everyone” he becomes involved with through his missions.
No matter the reason, he will absolutely not tolerate someone else’s future being stolen due to the circumstances of others!
While his cost-performance and time-performance might be terrible, his unwavering strictness and sense of what’s ‘normal’ make him a truly dazzling protagonist.
We, the anime staff, will follow Chrono and Kimura-sensei with deep respect, just as Chrono never gives up on that one chance to save you, even after failing 1000 times.
