Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mugenjou Arc Chapter One Breaks 25.7 Billion Yen, Surpassing Frozen! Fans Say, “Still Going to Watch!” and “Might Hit 30 Billion!”

Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Dai-isshou Akaza Sairai has recorded 18,272,941 attendees and 25,782,656,600 yen in box office revenue over its 31-day run. In Japan’s all-time domestic box office rankings, it has surpassed *Frozen* (2014) to claim the 4th position.

Kimetsu no Yaiba is an anime adaptation of the beloved manga by Gotouge Koyoharu, which concluded with 23 volumes published by Shueisha’s “Jump Comics” and boasts over 220 million copies in circulation. The story follows Kamado Tanjirou, a young boy whose family is tragically slaughtered by demons, with his sister Kamado Nezuko being turned into one. To restore Nezuko to human form, Tanjirou joins the Demon Slayer Corps, plunging himself into a fierce battle against demons. The series has captivated audiences worldwide with its poignant narrative of humans and demons, breathtaking sword fighting action, charismatic characters, and the occasional perfectly timed comical moments.

The anime, produced by the acclaimed animation studio ufotable, began its serialization with Television Anime “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Kamado Tanjirou Risshi-hen in April 2019. Now, the Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen is set to be a cinematic trilogy, with its first installment, “Dai-isshou Akaza Sairai”, having premiered on July 18th. This chapter plunges viewers into the heart of the “Mugenjou” (Infinity Castle), the demons’ formidable stronghold, where the ultimate battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons unfolds.

This film burst out of the gate with a phenomenal “rocket start,” shattering previous records set by the series’ past theatrical release, Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugen Ressha-hen (2020), for opening weekend, first-day, and single-day box office performance. Just 8 days after its release, it had already surpassed 10 billion yen in revenue. On August 12th, after 25 days in theaters, it continued its relentless momentum, reaching 15,698,202 attendees and 22,072,191,500 yen in box office earnings.

Following the recent update on its astounding success, fans have taken to social media to express their joy and anticipation. Comments flooded in, such as “Omedetou!! Still going to watch more!” and “Thank you for this wonderful work!” Many also voiced their high hopes with exclamations like “It looks like it’s heading for 30 billion yen!” and even “There’s a possibility it might surpass *Mugen Ressha-hen*!”

Indeed, the current box office total of 25,782,656,600 yen places Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugenjou-hen Dai-isshou Akaza Sairai at the 4th position in Japan’s all-time domestic box office rankings, having impressively surpassed *Frozen*’s 25.5 billion yen. For context, the current top rankings are: 3rd place held by *Titanic* (1997) with 27.77 billion yen, 2nd place by *Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi* (Spirited Away, 2001) with 31.68 billion yen, and the undisputed 1st place by *Gekijouban “Kimetsu no Yaiba” Mugen Ressha-hen* with an astounding 40.75 billion yen. All eyes are now on how much further this cinematic powerhouse will climb the charts, as its momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
