The Climactic Finale of *Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru* Season 2: Fans Delighted by “Dear My Dress-Up Darling”
The highly anticipated 24th episode of the Summer 2025 anime, *Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru* Season 2, titled “Dear My Dress-Up Darling,” aired on September 20th at 24:00 (effectively September 21st, 00:00 JST). Fans online were buzzing with excitement for the finale, with comments like “This subtitle…!”, “Isn’t that the English title?”, and “The series title itself has arrived!” fueling their anticipation.
About the Series: A Heartfelt Journey of Cosplay and Connection
*Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru* (also known as *My Dress-Up Darling*), a manga by Fukuda Shinichi, was serialized in “Young Gangan” by Square Enix. Although the original manga sadly concluded in March 2025, just before the Season 2 anime broadcast, the anime returned more powerful than ever. The story beautifully portrays the blossoming relationship between Gojou Wakana, a high school boy aspiring to become a Hina Doll artisan, and Kitagawa Marin, a popular girl who is always the life of the class. Their bond deepens through their shared passion for cosplay, sparked by a chance encounter.
Please note: The following article contains spoilers for those who have not yet watched the series. Proceed with caution.
Global Buzz and Pre-Broadcast Excitement
The highly anticipated final episode of *Kisekoi* Season 2 finally arrived! Just two days prior, a promotional advertisement was even displayed in New York’s Times Square, generating immense excitement. Suguta Hina, the voice actress for Kitagawa Marin, couldn’t hide her astonishment, exclaiming on her SNS, “MA!!!!???? Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
As the final episode’s broadcast date approached, many individuals involved in the production shared their announcements. Art director Nemoto Hiroyuki posted background art from four in-series works, including “Flower Princess Fierce!!,” expressing gratitude to the late Kouno Ryou-san.
“I hope you’ve all enjoyed the many in-series productions! Of course, I also worked on the art! I can’t thank Kouno Ryou-san enough for accepting the request for Kocchi Can!”
Beyond the in-series productions, live-action elements like the puppet show in Episode 17 and the paper puppet show (peep-show) in Episode 23 also drew attention. Episode 23 particularly impressed with the dialogue direction of Kitagawa-san and friends, who were aiming for a low-angle shot of JuJu-sama cosplaying as Black Lobelia. This unique typography was reportedly created by Yamaguchi Mai-san, featuring dialogue that erupted like an incantation!
As broadcast time drew near, many voices from the cast also emerged. Suguta Hina simply stated, “It’s finally the last episode…! Please enjoy Kisekoi until the very end!”
Ishige Shouya-san, who voices Gojou-kun, shared, “The final episode…! It feels like it went by in a flash…! Please watch it until the very end!!”
Miyake Marie-san, voice of Itou Suzuka, commented, “Finally the last episode… I can feel Marin-chan’s excitement just from the preview…!!! It’s finally time for the Coffin photoshoot.”
Umehara Shouta-san, who served as a production desk, showcased a collection of in-house posters (such as screening announcements) that reflected the three months he spent with *Kisekoi*. He had previously shared numerous behind-the-scenes stories, and on this day, he posted about location scouting and more. If you’re curious, be sure to check out his account! He always writes passionately about *Kisekoi*!
Animator Yaegashi Youhei-san energized Episode 24 with illustrations of classmates Morita Kensei and Kashiwagi Shiki. These two had memorable roles in the culture festival arc!
Speaking of animators, original creator Fukuda Shinichi-san sent “BIG LOVE” with an illustration of Sugaya Nowa and Kawanishi Seira to animator Sukegawa Hirohiko-san (pay attention to the glow stick Seira is holding!). Sukegawa-san had previously drawn illustrations for Nowa’s passionately sung karaoke song.
Sukegawa-san also replied to Fukuda-san with words of gratitude, stating, “For about four years since the first season aired in 2022, this is the work I’ve been involved with the longest and have the strongest feelings for. I never imagined such a thoughtful gesture, and I simply thought it was a dream…” It’s a kind world, just like *Kisekoi* itself.
Lest JuJu-sama scold us for a lengthy preamble, let’s dive into the main event of Episode 24!
The “Coffin” Cosplay and Akira’s Tsundere Revelation
Episode 24 saw the long-awaited “Coffin” photoshoot finally begin. Kitagawa Marin transformed into “Rose,” the Inui sisters, Sajuna and Shinju, became “Claire” and “Mira” respectively, cross-dressing cosplayer Himeno Amane took on “Emma,” and Honda Miyako, active under the cosplay name “Miyako,” embodied “Charlotte.” Each immersed themselves completely in their “Coffin” characters. When they started filming a dining scene using fake blood prepared by the studio, the internet was gripped by the shocking scene. “Wait. Kisekoi, is this… okay!?!? It’s terrifying,” “Didn’t expect gore from Kisekoi,” “It’s so gory. The visuals are insane…,” “Can’t believe it’s the final episode, and it’s genuinely covered in blood, lol.” “Coffin” is indeed a horror-heavy work.

Illustrator Narume-san was responsible for creating “Coffin” as an in-game pixel art title. Narume-san joyfully posted, “I’m so happy about the perfect recreation of the ‘Coffin’ game screen…!!! I felt like I was part of the game development staff for ‘Coffin’ and enjoyed it immensely, I’m truly overwhelmed with emotion!!!!”
After the photoshoot wrapped up, Shinju noticed something: the scene with Kitagawa Marin and Ogata Akira, who was cosplaying as “Sophia,” hadn’t been filmed. Believing “Suzuka-san might have forgotten,” Shinju cheerfully suggested to Marin and Akira, “Marin-san, Akira-san, would you two like to take some photos together?” Kitagawa Marin, who thought Akira disliked her, was about to convey this to Shinju. At that very moment, Fukuda-san posted an illustration of Akira. For some reason, her fan read “Ignore me”…
Rewinding slightly to the day they had an after-party at the karaoke box (Episode 21), Akira revealed to Amane and Gojou-kun “the reason why she’s not good with Kitagawa-san.” When Amane apologized for inviting Kitagawa-san to the “Coffin” photoshoot, unaware of Akira’s feelings, Akira shyly confessed, “No. I just… adore my 姫 (Hime)…”
Kazama Mayuko-san, who plays Miyako, and Amemiya Yuuka-san, who plays Kitagawa-san’s classmate Yahiro Daita, both tweeted “Hime” while watching in real-time. In the episode itself, Gojou-kun and Amane repeatedly said “Hime,” prompting Gojou-kun to innocently ask Akira, “Excuse me, but what does ‘Hime’ mean…?” Akira’s cheeks flushed as she began to explain, “This summer, Suzuka sent me a photo…” That photo was of Kitagawa Marin cosplaying as Black Lobelia! Akira’s heart was instantly captivated by Black Lobelia Kitagawa, and thus, her “Hime” was born.
Online, the reason behind “Hime” was a huge hit! Comments flooded in: “So that’s why she was acting awkward the whole time lol,” “I was always wondering why Akira-san seemed to avoid Marin, like she disliked her, but the reason was so unexpected and cute,” “Akira-san didn’t dislike Marin-chan at all, but was actually an intensely dedicated fan of Marin-chan lol,” “I totally understand Akira-san’s feelings for her Hime,” “The gap between Akira-san’s usual self and her blushing for Hime is too cute,” “The scene where she called her Hime, even the speech bubble was just like the manga, that was great.”
Returning to the day of the “Coffin” cosplay, Akira lets out a passionate scream towards Kitagawa-san! Fans online reacted with enthusiasm: “I was looking forward to Akira-san’s unrefined voice!”, “I love Akira-san’s cruddy voice,” “Thank you for the crude voice! lol,” “So this is what awakened Akira-san sounds like lol. Voice actors are amazing,” “Finally got to hear Akira-san’s crude scream lol,” “Akira-san’s dirty voice was reproduced so perfectly, it made for a really happy episode!”
Kazama-san and Amemiya-san were also thrilled, commenting, “That dirty voice was truly amazing,” and “Her scream made me laugh out loud lolol, so emotional lolol.” Fans who had read the manga were also overjoyed by the “dirty voice”! YouTube’s Aniplex channel also released it, so you can enjoy it again and again.
Akira didn’t dislike Kitagawa-san; she was actually her “oshi” (favored character/idol). Her affection was so intense that it manifested in that unique demeanor. Kitagawa-san’s eyes sparkled as she exclaimed, “This is the first time anyone has called me their oshi!!” Meanwhile, Akira-san teared up, wondering, “Is it okay for something this good to happen to me?” before letting out another dirty scream. Hearing Akira-san’s story, Kitagawa-san, who had been struggling with something, felt invigorated, realizing, “It’s really important to communicate, isn’t it!” And with that, the “Coffin” photoshoot concluded.

“See You Again”: Hopes for a Future Season
On their way home, Miyako, Suzuka, Akira, Amane, Shinju, and Sajuna bid their farewells: “Thank you, see you again!”, “Everyone, see you again~”, “(with a hoarse voice) See you again…”, “See you again,” “Let’s meet again,” “Let’s meet again.” This “Mata ne” (see you again) held significant weight, especially recalling that Kitagawa-san’s final words in *Kisekoi* Season 1 (Episode 12) were also “Mata ne.” It wasn’t long after that a second season was announced. Online, many voices expressed hope for a continuation, interpreting the “Mata ne” as a promising sign.
“The scene where everyone said ‘See you again’ and parted ways… it really hit me!”, “Our cosplay companions saying ‘See you again!’ surely means there’ll be a next time, right!!!”, “Since everyone said ‘See you again,’ there’ll be a Season 3, right? Or rather, there absolutely has to be,” “There was no mention of a Season 3, but seeing that ‘See you again’ scene, can we hope…?”, “I’ll live believing that the main characters’ ‘See you again’ implies something more to come.”
Kitagawa-san was then walked back to her apartment by Gojou-kun, gathering her courage for a heartfelt moment. Following the broadcast, many cast members shared their feelings about the final episode! (A selection below)
Suguta Hina-san, on the verge of tears:
“It was finally the last episode! I’m about to cry…!!! I’m holding it in! Truly, being able to deliver *Kisekoi* again was such a happy time. All I can say now is, I love *Kisekoi*! I love Marin-chan! I love Gojou-kun so muchhhhh!!!!!”
Ishige Shouya-san, concise, just like Gojou-kun:
“There’s too much I want to say, so I’ll keep it short. I’m truly happy to have been involved in this work and to have played Gojou Wakana-kun. Thank you very much.”
Ono Atsushi-san, who voiced Gojou-kun’s grandfather, Gojou Kaoru:
“To everyone who watched Kisekoi continuously since April, thank you! It was a good final episode… huh? Is it really over with this?”
Youmiya Hina-san, who voiced Shinju:
“I’m filled with happiness to have been able to watch another wonderful final episode like this. Feelings of love are irreplaceable treasures… I hope to see Shinju-chan and everyone again. Thank you for watching!”
Kazama Mayuko-san, who voiced Miyako:
“Tears welled up when everyone said ‘See you again!’… All the characters are truly cute, and there were so many wonderful lines…! So, I really want everyone to rewatch it many, many times! I’m happy to have met Miyako-san and *Kisekoi*. Please continue to support *Kisekoi*!”
Miyake Marie-san, who voiced Suzuka, didn’t forget to promote!
“Waaah, it’s over… (´;ω;`) Even though I knew the general flow from recording, Season 2 had so many surprises and emotions during its broadcast!!! Everyone, be happy~!! Through reposts from the anime’s official account, I learned about the work of various sections, and my attachment to Kisekoi grew even stronger during the broadcast period. I want to convey my gratitude to each and every person… gacha… Oh! The Blu-ray is out next week! If I rewatch it, Season 2 will never end, endless! Endless!”
Tomioka Misako-san, who provided narration in the series and voiced Gojou-kun’s cousin, Gojou Miori:
“Every week was fun! And I was moved by how much love everyone put into making each episode. Although Miori didn’t have a role in Season 2 (she was in the drawings though), I was happy to be called for narration and other things. I’m happy to have been involved in a work I love so much!! Thank you very much! I’ll always love it!”
Amemiya Yuuka-san, who voiced classmate Daita:
“I still want to see the future of these two diligent, positive, pure, and innocent adorable characters in anime… (;_;) It was a very fitting final episode for the two of them. It was heartwarming, sad, and happy, my emotions were truly… (;_;) It was truly a wonderful anime… I love Kisekoi so much…”
Following this, she posted a lengthy message, “From the perspective of a fan, and as an actress, please allow me to write down my overflowing feelings…” which is also highly recommended!
Mikiha-san, vocalist of Spira Spica, who performed the opening theme “Ao to Kirameki”:
“It was the absolute happiest to have run through Season 2 together! Believe in your own ‘likes.’ I will continue to sing about the endless blue and the momentary sparkle!!!! Thank you so much!”
She also participated in a viewing party for the final episode! Here’s a three-shot with Suguta-san and Ishige-san!
An original illustration and comment from Fukuda Shinichi-san were also released, expressing immense gratitude to CloverWorks, Director Shinohara-san, Suguta-san, and Ishige-san!
“From July, the 24:00 slot for three months was the happiest time in the world. I cried while watching even the funny scenes. I’m so fortunate to be able to shed tears of joy. I can’t express enough gratitude to the director and all the staff. I’ll love this forever. Thank you so much!”
Behind the Scenes: Production Staff’s Final Thoughts
The production staff also posted many messages after the final episode. Here’s a selection!
Director Shinohara Keisuke, who helmed both Season 1 and Season 2 of *Kisekoi*! Thank you very much!
Yamamoto Yuusuke-san, the assistant director supporting Director Shinohara-san.
Animation producer Someya Shou-san also posted many behind-the-scenes stories about *Kisekoi*, from a different perspective than production desk Umehara-san. Highlighting many of the production staff, this time he introduced setting production manager Yamamoto Rikako-san. Anime truly brings together so many talents to create a single work!
Finally, Umehara-san revealed some details about the subtitle.
“I proposed many subtitles to Director Shinohara-san, and the one he chose became the episode’s title. When I suggested ‘My Dress-Up Darling,’ Director Shinohara-san returned it with ‘Dear’ added, and I felt that it showed his respect for *Kisekoi*, which I thought was wonderful.”
*Kisekoi* had many memorable episode titles, such as Episode 17’s “800 Million” and Episode 20’s “The Only Way I Can Think of to Express My Gratitude Is with Money.”
The final episode’s script illustration featured the “Coffin” cosplay members alongside the number “24”!
