ABEMA, branding itself as the “new future of television,” aired the “Japan Anime Trend Awards 2025”—one of the country’s largest anime award shows—on its “Anime SPECIAL Channel” starting at 7:00 PM on December 26. The broadcast featured the “Japan Anime Trend Awards Ceremony,” where ABEMA conducted rigorous judging based on data aggregated from major media outlets to announce winners across various categories.
It was during this ceremony that the Anime Topic Award for the TV Anime category was revealed to have gone to the TV anime ‘Nohara Hiroshi Hirumeshi no Ryougi’.
Recapping 2025 and Looking Ahead to 2026

The “Japan Anime Trend Awards 2025” served as both a retrospective on the trends that defined 2025 and a sneak peek at the anticipated hits of 2026. Hosting duties were handled by main MC Iwai Yuuki from the comedy duo Haraichi, with voice actress Hikasa Youko joining as the sub-MC. The event also welcomed a lineup of anime-loving celebrity guests, including Tokui Sora, Inukai Takato, Akase Akari, and Tenshindon Tarou.

Why ‘Nohara Hiroshi Hirumeshi no Ryougi’ Won
The Anime Topic Award for the TV Anime category was awarded to ‘Nohara Hiroshi Hirumeshi no Ryougi’. A significant driver behind this win was the show’s explosive presence as a net meme. In 2025, half of all social media posts discussing anime memes were tied to this series, with its motion-capture dance sequences becoming a daily fixture that kept SNS platforms buzzing. By leveraging metrics like X post volume and viewer feedback, the award recognized this title as the year’s most talked-about TV anime.
Director Nishiyama Tsukasa Shares His Thoughts
To accept the award, Nishiyama Tsukasa, the director of ‘Nohara Hiroshi Hirumeshi no Ryougi’, took the stage.
When asked about his reaction to the win, Director Nishiyama delivered his comments peppered with metaphors—a playful nod to the food-review style of the show’s protagonist, Hiroshi. Attendees also got a chuckle when they spotted Hiroshi’s face peeking out from under the director’s jacket.
Pressed for a memorable episode, Nishiyama-sensei pointed to the pancake-centric installment, confessing that even reading the script had him laughing out loud.
